Making Public Transit Safer During COVID-19 OutbreakWe are committed to keeping our clients and staff safe while supporting the ability of our clients to access essential services. To meet this objective, we have incorporated many additional cleaning policies. The vans are not allowed to exceed half of their passenger load capacity. Our drivers frequently clean hot spots on the vans with an intense focus on places that are touched often. The drivers wipe down handles and seats often between riders. At the end of the day, the vehicles are returned to the center earlier than usual to allow for a more thorough wipe down.
Update from Northside Youth ServicesIn observance of the City of St. Louis Department of Health guidelines regarding the fight against community spread of COVID-19, NSYSSC youth programs will be closed starting Monday, March 16th 2020, until further notice. In the meantime, we are developing a plan on how we can continue to serve our community amidst this public health crisis.
Our Response to COVID-19: Senior Nutrition ProgramsAs our community deals with the growing Coronavirus threat, Northside Meals on Wheels remains committed to ensuring the health and safety of homebound older adults in the City of St. Louis; at the same time, we must also protect the wellbeing of our dedicated volunteers and hardworking staff. That’s why, in an abundance of caution for all involved, we will temporarily alter our meal delivery protocols.
During the past week, our volunteers have been delivering bundles of additional meals (5-packs of frozen and shelf stable meals) to those we serve along with the daily meal. As of now, all of our home-delivered meal clients have a two-week supply of meals. Our priority is to make sure the people we serve do not run out of food during these challenging times. Starting on Monday, March 23,2020, most of our staff, in adherence with federal, state, and local guidelines regarding the coronavirus, will work remotely from home. The daily congregate meal service, which provided on-site meals, will remain closed. We encourage clients in this program to use or take-and-go option or sign up for home delivery. Our kitchen will remain open to rebuild our supply of frozen meals for our next round of meal deliveries to our seniors. To be clear, we are not closing or suspending services; our agency will still be providing assistance to our current clients. The people we serve will be receiving phone calls from our Meals on Wheels staff to check in on them and assess their needs. We will also, be replenishing clients’ meal supplies well before they are depleted. The idea is to deliver multiple meals at a time in order to reduce risk to both client and volunteer. We will resume daily meal deliveries as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we will keep you updated on future developments. |
